I was watching the Today show this morning, Girls on the Grill segment they had a discussion about Immunisation. A member of parliment want to bring in if parents do not immunise their child they could be faced with a fine of up to $2,000.

I was immunisated as a child,as well as my husband, son has been done as well. Our next one will be immunised too.

How do you feel about parents being penalised for NOT immunising their children??

They wont be fined exactly but the government is cancelling the immunisation payment and building the incentive into FTB A... or something like that. I will see if I can find an article.

Quote:
Parents will miss out on up to $2100 if their children are not fully immunised under an expanded federal government scheme.

From next year, parents who don't have their children immunised will miss out on three payments of $726 available under the family tax benefit A end of year supplement, Fairfax Media reports.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon and Families Minister Jenny Macklin say the scheme provides "stronger immunisation incentives".

Under the expanded scheme, there will be a new immunisation check for one-year-olds in addition to those at two and five.

Children will also be vaccinated for meningococcal C, pneumococcal and chicken pox, bringing to 12 the number of diseases covered by the scheme.

The number of vaccination sessions will rise from five to six.

The government has also announced a new mailout campaign to promote whooping cough vaccinations.

This is nothing short of a media beat-up. I contacted Centrelink this morning and conscientous objections will still be allowed and therefore freedom to decide to vaccinate or not without penalty will remain.

I can't help but think it is a cost-cutting measure on the part of the government with the removal of over $200 per child in benefits as the immunisation allowance is scrapped.

I am glad u checked up on that because I was going to call centrelink and ask the same thing.
My DS is vaccinated but baby number two will most likely not be after much consideration and research into the effects and dangers of vaccination.

This will be an incentive to catch the ahem ... ferals. You know. The parents who don't vaccinated because they 'couldn't be bovvered'. Rather than to intice the people who are genuine conciencious objectors, or people who selectively vaccinate.
