Hi, is anyone eliminating dairy from their diet?

Thinking maybe Zack may be lactose intolerant and so i am going to take out all dairy from my diet. But seems its going to be quite hard to do....

Anyone done this and did it work etc? I th ink I remember ages ago someone doing it. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks Smile

My tip would be to be aware of hidden dairy in meat (especially chicken) products. Manufacturers pump meat full of water so that they can sell it for more (more money per weight), but so that the chicken doesn't taste watery, they add "milk solids" to it. Subway chicken has milk solids in it. As do many frozen products with chicken (lean cuisine, weight watchers, etc). So just beware of that! Some breads also have dairy in them, e.g. the naan recipe I have calls for yoghurt, so just check the ingredients of bread you buy.

Other than that, it's pretty straighforward, I think. Choose a substitute for cooking - soy milk works well in most recipes. Coconut milk goes well into cakes etc. Swap butter or dairy blends for nutelex. Coconut cream goes well on top of desserts or even fruit salad.

I did it with Harrison when he was little because it turned out he had severe refux that was made worse by the excessive lactose. It worked wonders for him and he was more settled and much happier within a couple of weeks. It was hard to do because I absolutely love cheese and yoghurt (and chocolate and ice cream of course) but it was soooo worth it!!

It was just my mums suggestion because she is lactose intolerant and thought maybe he might be because he is always scrunching up in pain and always unsettled and extremely gassy...

I have taken dairy out, Im drink lactose free milk and soy butter....Zack has 2 bottles of lactose free formula and the rest is BM.

I think it may be having some affect, as he seems a bit calmer and will sit and talk for a while now without getting upset straight away. Ive been dairy free for 4 days now. :)

Good luck, I hope it works for you guys. I tried that while bfing Adeng as she has major snot problems and people suggested dairy might be behind it, did nothing for her though.
