The name that my DP and I both like best for our daughter is Remy, but our pet bird's name is Reggie. Is it too similar? Do you you think that everyone will think we bascially have given our daughter our pet's name? Or will people get over the similarity quickly?

I love the name Remy. Wub Maybe a little close looking/sounding, but i it where me, it wouldn't bother me. I think if anyone says or thinks anything of it, they will get over it pretty quick.

And there's that anonymous glitch again!!

I don't think it matters :)

Our Cat is Shadow and our daughter is Willow.

(However when she was first born hubby kept calling Willow, Shadow but by accident).

I don't think it matters at all! I wouldn't worry about what anyone elase thinks as long as it doesn't bother you - at the end of the day I certainly wouldn't pass up the name you love for your daughter for that reason. In 10 years your daughter will still be called Remy, and chances are that nobody except you will probably remember what your bird's name was by then!

Go for it I say! BigGrin

PS it is extremely cute Wub

I don't think it matters. To be blunt, your pet won't be alive for ever anyway. By the time she is a teenager it will most likely have passed on, and no-one will think about it.

Mind you, our 2 sons are Luke and Liam, and we do get them mixed up a bit! They don't mind.

I didn't have Tilly on my baby name list, she was 6 minutes old when i "realized" her name was Tilly. I don't feel like i chose it, i feel like it was her name. haha.
But, my dog is Nelly.
And Nelly's Mum was Sally. And our cat was Molly. We just need an "Ully" name to complete the set! BigGrin lol.

But no - i don't think it's something i'd have worried about! :)

I don't think they are that close and like luke's mummy said that your pet won't live forever, I love Grace but in IL's have a dog named Gracie- I think that's too close. So I would go for it ThumpUp

My parents have a dog called Max, so Max is off our names list, and they used to have a dog called Lily, that's also off our list. I think unless the names are identical there are no issues, Remy is a lovely name!

I say go for it! I know someone who actually named their child what they had previously named their cat - they loved the name so much that they changed the cats name and used the name for their child!

Not too close at all!!!

Our boys name is 5 letters long and the only difference between the baby name and one of our dogs name is the first letter! I was hesitant but as DH points out (he is very logical) that the dog wont always be with us but our child will and we dont have to justify anything to anyone!

So while I am still slightly concerned people will think its strange, we love the name and that is the most important thing :)

I like what Freester wrote "I say go for it! I know someone who actually named their child what they had previously named their cat - they loved the name so much that they changed the cats name and used the name for their child! "

We have a cat named Moby, who was nicknamed poppet (dont ask why, we have no real idea how it happened) which has since been shortened to poppy. Now that we have started thinking about having a family and hence names I love the name poppy but wasnt going to use it as thats what we call the cat. I guess it wont be that hard to change her name back to Moby and the general public dont know we call her poppy. Thanks Freester for giving me back that name.

I to agree with all PP. If you love and it doesn't bother you don't listen to what others have to say, I say go for it. Remy is a beautiful name!

i dont think they are all that similar tbh. the sound is a little alike but the names are quite different.

i have always liked the name hollie. but i named my dog hollie. and i have this thing where i cant name an animal or person the same name as one i;ve already had- so even if my dog died, i couldnt call my baby hollie.
that said, my parents bred siberian huskies. and i remember a lot of names which i liked- and i have used a couple partly in my kids names. we had one named jazz and dd2 got jasmine for her middle name. we had a willow, and dd3 has willow for her middle name. i couldnt use them as first names however as they 'define' the animal, or other person if it was a person i knew. but that is when you are talking about exact names. similar names would be different. like, i have a niece named hayley. but i wouldnt hesitate to call a son hayden (only, now i wont out of respect as a friend had a stillborn whom she named hayden) cos even though they are similar they are not the same iygwim?
