Hi Ladies,

Just wondering if any of you have used TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) and acupuncture throughout your journey at all and if you have any success stories, advice, etc.

I have my first appointment tomorrow with a TCM guru and dont know what to expect.

I used it for my cycle. Not because I was TTC, but because I was getting AF every 14 days. After my first accupuncture session, it was 6 weeks before my next AF!

I do know someone who was doing IVF and had accupuncture after each time they put an embryo in. Her clinic recommended it because apparently accupuncture helps bubs to stick.

I haven't use it to TTC but when I was 15 used it to help with the painfulness I got each time AF showed up. I was looking up pregnancy and acupuncture for the 3rd tri to help with labour and the article which was most helpful comes off of a IVF website: (replace DOT with .)

Hi Vicky, we used acupuncture and TCM when we were TTC DD. We got our BFP on the very first cycle after almost 2 years of trying. Who knows whether it was that, that did the trick or whether it was just sheer luck. Our acupuncturist is awesome and he helped me through the entire 9 months of my pregnancy with DD. We decided to TTC #2 about 6 months ago and so far have not had any luck, so we returned to our acupuncturist this week for a bit of extra help. Again, he was awesome and spent almost 2 hours with us working through our diet and lifestyle. Just be prepared for yours to put you on a fair amount of vitamins (if you're not already taking them) as well as the herbal tonics that they use. It is also advised that your partner goes along too as there are tonics/vitamins that the male can use to help increase sperm production and to help improve motility and mobility of the sperm.

The whole process can be extremely expensive...ours cost us $350 the other day and we only got $50 back from our private health fund. But I think if you are going through IVF you can claim some of the expense back from that? Not too sure on that one it was just that our acupuncturist touched on that subject when we saw him, but as we are not at that stage I told him not to worry about those receipts.

Good luck with your appointment! I hope it all goes well. Oh and just another quick tip...the tonics taste awful! Make sure you sweeten them with honey ThumpUp

Hey Girls,

Thanks for all the info! Very useful!

Louise- thanks heaps for that. Hubby is def going along with me so hopefully between the two of us we can work this stuff out. We have done one round of IVF so the cost compared to that is nothing.

Fingers crossed we will have a good outcome!
