Hi There!!!

I was wandering if someone could please help me ?I am 25 weeks pregnant with my second baby. My first baby had IUGR and was born at 33 weeks and was 3 Pounds. the doctors did some tests after she was born and found that my kidneys failed when i was pregnant which caused the blood not to flow through the placenta properly causing IUGR, he also said that this would happen with each pregnancy and that if i take aspirin every day it should get me at least 3-4 weeks further along. and then i saw another doctor and she said there is a 30% chance i mite not get it at all. so im really confused!! i was wandering if anyone out there had IUGR caused by kidney problems? and whether they had IUGR in their second pregnancy? i am 25 weeks at the moment and the baby so far is growing fine.Thank you so much!Im a very worried mummy!

Hi Hannaht, I had kidney insufficiency with my last 2 pregnancies. (The difference I believe between kidney insufficiency and failure is the first is up to and including 25% function and failure is up to 10% of function.) Were your kidney problems due to pre-eclampsia?

I didn't know until recently that it was in my obstetric notes that my second baby was considered IUGR. I had fortnightly growth scans with my most recent baby (born 32+2 weeks) and he was not IUGR. In fact he was a big ish baby for his gestation at 1.9kg. They needed to get him out though due to kidney insufficiency and complete liver failure.

I was on asprin from early pregnancy. Who knows if it did anything or not. Perhaps it prolonged the inevitable by a few weeks. It probably did because no one expected I would get to 32 weeks so if they advice you take it, then certainly you should.

In my experience the kidney issues did come back but also in my experience it did not mean that bub would experience IUGR a second time. They certainly watched very carefully for it though.

Good luck to you and I hope everything goes well for you and your baby.
