Hi girls!

Just wondering if any Adelaide girls can please please please help me out. Im wondering where you're going to (or have) delivered and if it was private what was your Ob's name? We're thinking of going private this time and in the northern suburbs if you could help us out that would be awesome! ThumpUp

I saw Andrew Day, he works at Ashford so maybe not quite the area you are looking at but I was very happy with him/his staff/the hospital.

I can't speak highly enough of North Eastern Community Hospital. I not only had DD there but also had my appendicectomy there 2 years later and both times they were fantastic. Treated me with all the dignity and respect that I needed during those vulnerable times. They were amazing with allowing DH in anytime he wanted, and he stayed when DD was born (we had a queen size bed). I never felt pressured with any of my decisions, especially the one about not being able to BF DD due to my medical condition, they were 100% supportive. I stayed in for 5 days and could have stayed the 6th as my OB thought I could have done with the extra days rest, but I decided to go home. Same with my appendicectomy, normal stay is only overnight but I stayed for 2 days as I was so ill.

My OB was Dr Neil Tamlin and he was absolutely brilliant. I have to admit that I did find him a bit dry and "offish" during my pre natal visits but during the actual birth I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. He was supportive and reassuring and spent 2 hours sitting with me talking to me and helping to keep me calm when things started going a bit pear shaped.

I hope this helps in some way but if you are looking to go private I would book in ASAP, the good OB's book out VERY quickly. I booked in when I was 5 weeks and he was almost all booked out!

I had Neil Tamlin for my pregnancies as well, at North Eastern. It's a fantastic hospital and I've been a patient 4 times. There's always one midwife who's a bit of a cow, but I think you'd get that anywhere.

Ian Jones actually delivered DS1, because he couldn't wait for Dr Tamlin to get back from holidays, and he was great. He has a good sense of humour, and he would've been my 2nd choice had Dr Tamiln not been available for my pregnancy with DS2.

I don't have any hesitation in recommending Dr Tamlin. I found him helpful and informative during my pre natal visits and great during the delivery of DS2. He also did my hysterectomy a few months ago and again, he was great. He's easy to talk to and no question is too 'silly' to ask.

I think it's good how you get to see the midwife first at the appointments and then see him. I'm not sure if that's the same as with other doctors who consult there. I was lucky enough to have Delice (who is one of the 2 midwives who works in Dr Tamlin's rooms) as the midwife during both of my deliveries. I can't speak highly enough of her.

I know some people who've had Chris Hughes and Jeff Hillen who consult there, and they have said they're lovely as well. When I was in labour with DS2, there was someone in labour across the corridor who had one of the female doctors, and she didn't sound all that great... Not sure of her name though.

All the best for your pregnancy and with your decision!

i am using the shared care facility at the lyell mcewin. The women's health section support partners and they stay with you during the labour and birth. Double bed and personal room with bathroom. Jenny niven is my midwife and she's great. Last week when i suffered a migraine so bad that i couldn't hold a thing down, Hubby called them and we went straight in. My vitals were checked stayed in for 2hrs on observation and got fed. Can't ask much more than that :D xxx

hope this helps you :)

Dr Beth Russ. Both kids. AMAZING.

Her OB partner in the practice is Dr Anna Bof who was also amazing. They are at the Magill Women's Health Center or something I think it's called.

Delivered at North Eastern Community Hospital (Campbelltown/Paradise) which was excellent. Great midwives, great rooms.

Delice is an amazing midwife, she really helped me with breastfeeding with Gracie :)

All of the nurses/midwives that were permanents at NECH I found to be excellent, but there were a couple of agency ones who were a bit meh - but that's because they had some regulars out on leave!

I was in for 22 days with Lucas (11 before, 11 after) and they were awesome, and didn't discharge me until he was ready to go home, and the midwives really went to bat for us to take him home even though the paed was a bit reluctant :)

Really positive experience overall, and if we manage to ever get lucky with #3 we'll be doing it at the same place, with the same people!

Thanks guys.

Adam/Trish I went publicly through Lyell Mcewen through the birth center. They were great unfortunately it ended in a c-section so this pregnancy I will be trying a VBAC which i think I would feel more comfortable privately. Good luck with your birth there so all the staff were so lovely :)

MelJL Im going to give Beth Russ a call on monday I have heard nothing about good things about her....

Thanks everyone for your import its been lovely!

I had Dr Bof for both my DD (2007) and DS (2009). Back then she used to also work at centrals one day a week which was fantastic as it was close to work.
But I am currently 4 weeks 3 days and have booked with her again. She delivers at North Eastern but also Lyell Mac. Best thing about going with her in my case is we go 'private' in a public hospital (Lyell Mac). Means you have no excess on your health insurance (if you have that on your private health) but you still pretty much guaranteed your own private room and you get the benefit of thier cool tv/phone/internet system without having to pay any extra too.
I've had 2 C-sections unfortunately (first one 27 hours induced labour, posterior baby and failure to progress...drugged up on everything and went from 4cm to 3cm. Second was was elective....I have pelvis size in bottom 3rd percentile and babies with heads over the 97th percentile...last one of 39cm). I am hoping to avoid Gestational diabetes this time and going to attempt a vba2c. Dr Bof is very supportive of whatever the woman wants to do. She also has an ultrasound machine in her rooms so you get to see baby at every visit. Finally another plus is she bulk bills her ultrasounds so there is no additional out of pocket cost there. All up (after safety net etc) she charges a total of $2000 for the entire pregnancy.

I am going with Dr. Linda McKendrick this time around, I had a c-section with Jimmy and my old OB would not let me go for a VBAC. So I went to Dr. Mckendrick, I have only had one appointment with her so far and she is so supportive of me trying for a VBAC. She is at Ashford!

Lyell Mac is pretty good at being flexible with time in for C-section. With my first I was in one night (being induced) and then 6 more with DD as she needed to learn to suck. She went from being 8lb to 7lb and although they were getting very cautious I was at no time forced to formula feed her. Once she put on weight (and man she really learnt then) we were allowed to go home.
With DS, he was born on Tuesday morning and I went home Thursday morning (but that was by choice and would have actually gone home Wed morning if the pead had been able to come around and check on baby). I hate hospital though and am always keen to get out asap. They generally wont be saying anything til after 5 days with a csection though from both mine and friends experience.
Maybe seeing you at Dr Bofs offices?

Hi Terry's Girl

Just wondering how you have gone with Mckendric? I'm 34 weeks & have recently told my ob I don't want to go with him anymore & have seen another one since but not happy with her (all her patients must birth on the bed facing her). I have an appt with Mckendric but have just found out she has the highest C-section rate in SA d'oh! & has had 4 herself!!! Did u end up with one & was she supportive at the actual birth?

I know this is really late (I actually found this post again on Google!) but I just had a successful VBAC with Linda, I have posted my birth story in the birth story section (Archie’s Birth.) I just wanted to replay in case someone else found this thread on Google because TBH I really cannot believe she has the highest c/s rate in SA. My birth story is very long but if you read it you will know that she was very, very supportive of me. If her c/s rate was that high I really doubt I would have even been allowed to try for a VBAC let alone actually have a successful one.
