DH and I have been talking about baby names for months. He is so picky and we honestly couldn't find a name we both remotely liked

Then one day I said a name I liked the sound of and he said YES! He is now clinging to that name and isn't really open to any other ideas!

The problem is, I dont know if I LOVE the name as much as I should! It goes against so many of my "rules", most crucial being its actually a nickname.

I have been saying this name out loud for a few weeks now and I am just not sold...

Did anyone else have a name picked they weren't 100% about, did you end up using it or changing last minute? Also, has anyone used a name that went against their "rules" IYKWIM? How did you feel about it later??

DS3 (kobe) was a name i wasn't totally set on this was hubby choice but i didn't know whether i really loved it like i did my other boys name.

in the end i didn't get a choice DS3 was born premmie and was taken to special care DH went with him as i was unable to go as i was all hooked up to monitors becasue of PE. Anyway when DH come back with photos and i said i guess we better decide on a name. DH replied we have it's Kobe and that what i told the nurses.

But once i saw him the next day i knew it suited him and now i love the name and couldn't imagine him being one of the others names i liked.

DP and I were so stumped for names, in the end I said. Your his dad, first born son and all. You chose his name (though I got final say of course lol) About a week before DS was born, DP suggested a name. I wasn't sold.
Then when DS was born, they asked DP what his name was while I was busy getting cleaned up. DP told them the name he had picked and that was that.
It's grew on me quickly. I shortened it to a nick name and it really suits DS!

We were like this with Daisy.., I loved the name before we got pregnant and DH hated it. I nagged and nagged and suggested awful names like Mildred and Florence (no offense if anyone likes these names lol.. Not my cup of tea though :p) and he eventually said he liked Daisy. Then I wasn't sure... Lol... I wanted Ashlyn or Evelyn and he was dead set on Daisy, now im glad and I love it haha. Even when she was born though I wasn't sure, because she was 10 pounds and a real chunky baby, not delicate or pretty like a daisy is hahah... Super glad we stuck with it though because she is beautiful and delicate and dainty and totally fits the name!!

I chose Evelyn as an act of defiance during a moment of "clarity" after being pumped full of pethidine and morphine. The rationale was that if I named her Evelyn, then NOBODY could tell me what her middle name had to be.... Yeah, cos that TOTALLY makes sense... Blink RollEyes Blink RollEyes Blink

For the first few days in the hospital, I just sat there staring at her thinking "Why on earth did I give you such a ridiculous name?!?!?!" For the first three weeks, I regretted it and thought about changing it. We didn't put in the birth certificate paperwork for over a month, because I was so hesitant and contemplating suggesting a name change to DH.

By the time she was a month old, I was madly in love with the name, and I couldn't imagine her being called anything else... Although we do call her Gug a lot!

All our names have fit criteria but I completely understand what you're saying. We've had names on the list in the past that haven't met the rules and they feel kind of 'icky' being there, even though you like the name. (O.k, that makes no sense but hopefully YKWIM!!!)

Of course, my curiosity is getting the better of me and I HAVE to ask what is the name we're discussing??!! Laugh Laugh

Love all your stories!

Diana and Miss T - DH did the same for DS. We had somewhat agreed on Flynn as a boy name but I didn't think it was set in concrete. I didn't really discuss boy names because I was sure he would be a girl! So seconds after delivery while getting stitched up etc DH tells me he has texted EVERYONE and when I asked what he wrote he said " I just said Flynn arrived and he was blah blah kg etc" I was gobsmacked!!! I said we hadn't even decided properly! But I did like the name and I had no other ones in the wing so Flynn it stayed :)

Beck - nothing has to make sense when you are in labour!! Or for numerous day and weeks later! I love the name Evelyn too!

Nicola - I wanted Daisy so badly as a girls name but then DH named his dog Daisy, so I could never use it now as she is a family pet and favourite. I think no matter the name they do grow into it, as long as you like it enough at the start!

Bek - I don't want to say the name! Because I am slightly concerned about people thinking ewww! Which is half of my hesitation to use it! Maybe I will PM you lol

This name is actually our boy name. Girl is sorted but I have such a strong feeling its a boy so I'm get anxious!!!! I keep telling myself that the name will grow on me eventually... fingers crossed!! Perhaps I will have a few names on the back burner to throw in at the last minute and see if I can sway DH!!

I was never set on Ashton but DH loved it (he actually wanted Ash) but I have to have 2 syllable names BigGrin so I suggested Ashton as a compromise, it's funny how you look at them as they are getting older and think they couldn't have any other name

I wanted a Jimmy but didn’t want just Jimmy because it is really a nickname. When push came to shove and we had no idea on names... only that I wanted the nickname to be Jimmy DH said just call him Jimmy. I said no because he will always have to say “it’s just Jimmy” DH said "I have to tell everyone it is just Terry." I couldn’t argue with that! So happy we went with just Jimmy now BigGrin

I'm like that with the name we have picked. I suggested about 30 names and DP said no, no, no to all of them except this one! While I like it, it's not my favourite.
I told DP we have to have back up names just incase the name doesnt suit her and he finally agreed it made sense to, given the fact we had a name set in concrete for Isaac but then went with a completely different name because Caden just didnt suit him!
I gave DP a list of 30 more girls names I like and he crossed off all but 2 (plus the name we already had) and I'm super happy because I LOVE 2 of them and I know we'll end up with a name I really like lol.

I had a moment of cold feet with Isabelle about a week before she was due to arrive. Isabelle was the only name we agreed on, so as soon as we found out she was a girl we started calling her Isabelle. Then right towards the end I started to go off it for some reason, but didn't really have any alternatives I loved. DH had his heart set on Isabelle Rose by then, so I went along with it. But as soon as I held her in my arms I knew that she was Isabelle Rose, and that no other name would have been quite right. Wub

Good luck - names are so hard!

if i hadn't been so sick and so tired i probably would have given him what for. all that counted really in the end was that he arrived safely and he was healthy.

hehe, it did make me wonder if my name drama was a bit trivial!! But I realised it was obviously an error!

DH wont move on this name. He is really set. I wish I had a name I really loved that would rival it but I just cant think of any boy names!!

I am just hoping that one day we look back and feel the same way Suzanne, that we couldn't imagine him with any other name :)

Now we just need to cross our fingers for a girl so I dont have to worry either way!!

Hope you can get the name sorted I think it's probably one of the most stressful things towards the end and yes lets hope for a girl and then no problem

DS was meant to be 'Lincoln' when I found out I was having a boy at 17 weeks pregnant I refered to him as Link. then as my due date became closer I started doubting & having cold feet & actually got to the stage I no longer liked the name so went back to the drawing board as they say & then about a week before I had him Ashton popped into my head & I knew that had to be his name & when I saw him it fitted him to a tee :) I gave all my friends a shock as I had told them the previous name. Even his father had no idea I had changed into I had him we are separated it was dirty with me for a few days as he loved the original name but now he loves Ashton's name. :)

We chose the name Alfie really early one (before we knew sex) and were pretty sure we would go with it until about 25 weeks and then decided it just wasn't right. Lots of people seem to have a 'not quire the right name' moment at some point I thinkl.
