I don't remember getting them after DD (my first) but did get them after DS. Like others have said it was mostly while breastfeeding and felt like I was in labour again, to the point of having to breathe through them. I found them worse at night, so would take panadol before going to bed.

yup, with the first, barely noticed, with the second, omgosh, it was seriously painful. i honestly think it was the same as labour pains for me, but then, i didnt think they were that painful. the "lovely" visiting midwife said that with each one it gets more painful, so get use to it if i wanted more kids......

having said that, everyone is different, so you may not experience them that bad. it is all part and parcel of child birth though

I don't want to scare you but for me, while I didn't get them with DD1 with DD2 they were so bad that they had me on the strongest medication (it didn't work) they could give me. I didn't have pain relief during the birth because labour only lasted 53 mins, so everyone told me it was because it was all so fast. But after 3 days I passed a large clot that was a different color (TMI) and as soon as it was out the pain stopped and my body was instantly relived. A midwife friend said that it could have been a small part of the placenta that hadn't been removed after birth.

I'm the same as Bek, I never had after birth pains after Mikayla or after the twins.

With my 2nd, 3rd and 4th babies they were worse than the first but still just like bad period pains so just took the odd paracetamol and didn't have any with 5th!

Just thought I'd let you know that I had my bub last week and the afterbirth pains weren't that bad. They were even less painful than with my first so I guess it depends on the pregnancy ThumpUp
