Signatures are cute, but like pics, they need to be small enough not to clog things up and make loading of pages too slow (esp. for those on dial up)
We have noticed that as time goes on, we have been letting the rules slide a bit & that signature sizes seem to have doubled & tripled from the original rules (which was 250x250).
From now (25/01/08 ) signature sizes are asked to be limited to 3 tickers or 1- 2 tickers with a pic no bigger than450x200 or the equivalent (this new enlarged size still allows those who make their sigs with photoshop etc- a decent size pic to work with).
We will give current members until the end of February to check that their signatures are within size, then if they are found to be larger than that we will unfortuantely have to delete.
All new members from now- who's signatures are too big will get a pm from a moderator to let them know their signatures are too big, then will be given 2 weeks to correct the size.
(To check the sig of the pics in you signature- simply right click on the picture- then choose properties- then it will show you the dimensions of the pic.)

If you have a look in your profile it shows you that a maximum of 255 characters applies..if your entire signature is longer than 255 characters that is when you'll get the 'signature is too long' message.

Gen - probably because you've got other text and a blinkie as well. You've only got a maximum of 255 characters to play with...

Also just want to bump this thread again... as I noticed since this thread was posted that more & more people are adding bigger pics to their sigs... just don't want you guys to be disappointed when we will be forced to delete them at the end of the month. Live, Laugh, Love :)

yours are fine if it is just the little pic (the one joined to a ticker) that pushes a ticker out that is ok... as you can't get it any smaller....iykwim. Live, Laugh, Love :)

I have changed my signature to be no more than the size of an ant and it still won't upload... can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? You might be a big fish in a little pond. Doesn't mean you've won, cos there'll only come a bigger one. You'll be lost, every river that you tried to cross. Every door you ever tried was locked....and I'm just waiting till the shine wears off.
