It depends on the baby.
Usually a prem baby between 35-37weeks will have a minimal stay in hospital providing they have had no complications.
My first daughter was born at 35weeks and stay one week but 2 of my friends had babies at the same gestation and they were only in for a few days.
Anything before 35weeks requires a longer stay my son was born a 33+6weeks and required a two week stay in hospital.
So usually just depends on the health and feeding habits of the baby.

I was told they deal with things differently at each hospital, but I agree with Loz. We are actually in the same area - Cam was born at Liverpool at 32 weeks, went to Campbelltown a bit over a week later and was released from there at 35 +5.

They said they dont like to send any babies home before 36 weeks as they are unpredictable.

As Laura said it really depends on the baby.
Emily was born at 35 weeks and spent 2 days in the NICU, 1 day in the SCN and 6 days all up in hosptal...fortunately I didn't have to leave hospital because she roomed in with me on the forth day.
Leigh_roy was born at 36+1 and he was in hospital for 11 days but he had the added complication of pneumonia.
A friend of mine just had her bub at 34+3 and he spent 10 days in hospital.
It all depends on how mature bubs lungs are, if they can feed on their own or if they require a NGT, if they can regulate their own temperature and if they are gaining weight after their initial 10% loss.
I hope you can make it through to 37 weeks and your bub doesn't require any hospital stay.

Lucas was born at 34+5, he spent 11 days in hospital.

We were very lucky in the sense that Lucas had quite good size (although he lost a lot of weight very quickly, and wasn't strong enough to be able to suck properly). So even though he was larger than some of the babies which have been born full term (3.01kg) on the forums, he wasn't capable of things like suckling from the breast or bottle, or maintaining body temperature - or for the first few hours of his life, breathing in a normal environment.

He was only in a crib (with oxygen and all the tubes and stuff) for 36 hours, at which point his oxygen retention was fine. I was allowed to have him in my room for the rest of the time until we went home, though a couple of nights they had to bring in the heater, and he was on two hourly obs for the first week (heart rate, temp, etc), and then went to four hourly. And every morning we had weigh ins. We had to keep a diary of his feeds (we had to feed him two hourly initially) and of how much (and how; via gavage or bottle or breast) he'd had.

I credit his fairly early release and lack of problems due to the fact that I had eleven days warning that he was going to be coming early - and on the very first day I went to hospital they gave me a steroid injection, and another one the following morning.

Our release was conditional on the fact that; he took all of his feeds via bottle or breast (he was gavaged- tube fed for the majority of his feeds) for a 24 hour period. And then on top of that, he had to gain and maintain weight consistently.

Our paed didn't really want him to leave the hospital as early as he did (he was 36 weeks +2 days), but the maternity ward staff convinced him we'd be fine and that we'd go back into hospital if anything happened at all. We had to go in each day for the first week for weigh ins, and then after that once a week until we'd been home for four weeks.

I think, in the end - the main answer to your question - is that it depends on the baby!

Baylee was born at 36+4, and we had 2 weeks in hospital.

I think a lot depends on the baby's weight as well. We weren't allowed to go home until she was 2.5kgs - they were REALLY strict on that (she was born 2.310) ... the morning of her last weigh-in she was 2.48kgs and i remember thinking they'd never let us home... but they did :D

We also had to do 48hours of full feeds, no tube... we were originally told 24 hours, but we got transfered to a different hospital and the rules changed, otherwise we'd have been home sooner i reckon :?

Apart from having trouble learning to feed and suck, she had no troubles... she spent a few hours in the humidicrib, but was maintaining her temp no worries. They were also worried she may have had an infection from my waters breaking early (waters broke friday morn and she wasnt born til sunday arvo), so they started her on antibiotics but her tests came back clear.

As pp said, really depends on your individual bub. All the best :)

My son was born at 36 weeks by emergency c -section due to pre-clapsia.

He was 7 pound 6 and we spent 6 or 7 days in hospital but only because he wasnt putting on weight. Problems bf - wich I know now was due to contradicting advice from midwives. Lovely ladies but each of them told me different things / ways to feed wich meant he never actually got a good feed.

Sounds like you're worried about the size of bub? I wouldn't be too concerned.... when the dr's take measurements, they're just an estimate.... not anything to do with the size of bub....afterall, you could be carrying extra fluid which would make that measurement inaccurate.

Definitely depends on bub. My friend had a baby boy in November who was born at 37 weeks and spent 13 days in hospital due to complications with being born early so it does really depend on the baby.

DS was born at 36 weeks and was in room with me straight after c/s and left with me 6 days later.

I did have the hormone injections at 31 weeks as I went into permature labour so who knows if that had anything to do with him not having problems.

I had a friend who gave birth at 36+5 and he stayed in Hospital for 3 weeks with breathing, feeding, temperature issues so as others have said it really depends on the baby.
