Hi Hopeful mum

Well i had my GP appointment yesterday and they said when my ultrasound films were reviewed the twins did indeed have their own placenta and they are in seperate sacs so that was wonderful news. Everything else is well. I have a referral for the clinic at the hospital here as that is where i will be having my regular apps, etc. Not much else to update but mum and babies are well.

Great news that you have made it to 32 weeks, hopefully the babies will fatten up and stay in there a little longer. It must be very exciting for you knowing you are nearing the end and will soon get to meet your babies :D

Thats excellent news about the sperate placentas. It means as fair as twins goes, your a low high risk ( this was my hospitals favourite saying about twins in seperate placentas.)

So now you get to play the guessing game, two boys, two girls or one of each!! :D

Though they cannot tell at the 12 week scan i had a feeling it was going to be a boy and girl combination. Only time will tell. Do you think they are fraternal or cant you tell yet???

They could be either. Identical twins can be in sperate placentas. SO if you choose to find out the sex, it will either tell you or keep you guessing. If it is 2 of the same sex, and you really want to know you can buy DNA testing kits off the web and they will be able to tell you if they are identical or not.

Yeah, it can get confusing. Sometimes the one placenta splits early into two seperate placentas. But I think that is less common than them being fraternal.

April, my girls were in seperate sacs but shared the same placenta. So they were actually in seperate sacs that were encased within one larger sac, if that makes sense. They are identical.

Thankyou for the info ladies....guess it means i have to wait til 18 weeks to see if they are same or different sex...it is a guessing game isn't it lol.

Thankyou to all of the ladies sending their congratulations. We are over the initial shock now and are excited. Still doesn't take the fear away though but it is exciting.

My twin girls started out in sep sacs and sharing a placenta and then my placenta split through the pregnancy. There were 2x placentas when the girls were born.

I also had them DNA tested with a mouth swab testing kit i sent away for. Which came back as 99.97% identical.

It's good to know that you can have those tests if needed.

Well i'm finally booked in for my morphology on April 6th so i'm excited to find out the sex of the twins. I also have an appointment on 30th march to book me into hospital and to organise my regular appointments. I was quite cranky and disappointed as i had to call them 3 weeks after the referral was faxed by my doctor and they were the ones who were supposed to contact me. They had already made my app but didn't know why i hadn't been contacted about it !!!! Go figure ! Anyway it is sorted now and i hope the rest of my pregnancy care is taken with a little more care.
