They took Maxx of his caffeine yesterday as he was only having the very occasional brady/desat and put him on all suck feeds...I got a little excited because it is all indicators that he is getting ready to come home.
We went in this morning for the 9am feed and noticed a lot of red wrriting on his chart...he had had a couple of brady's (Heartrate drops) with apnea (stops breathing) and colour change (went dusky)
That is very unusual for him.
I went to feed him and he seemed very tired and slow to feed...I then heard the monitor alarm and his heartrate had dropped to 60 and 02 sats to 63 and it wasn't coming back up, I sat him up and he still wasn't coming back up and he was turning blue...2 nurses came straight over and he had to have some o2 waved under his nose to get him to breathe again...I then promptly burst into tears.
After a bit I put him back on and the doctors we up to us on their rounds...he then did it again and this one was a little worse...he went blue then grey
They decided to put him straight back on the caffeine and gave him a double dose.
They also ordered a crp level in case it was an infection.
They topped him up with the tube.
I went back in for the 12pm feed...I bathed him first and he then went straight on for his feed...but then had another apnea/brady episode and went dusky again...he did it once more.
The doctor came back over and said to tube feed the rest (I was to scared to feed him again) and to tube feed the next couple of feeds.
The CRP level was 5...so no infection.
He obviously is not ready to give up his caffeine yet.
He is 37 weeks on Wednesday and it looks like we will be in to at least due date or more...it depends if he can get of the caffeine.
It was a scary day...it really shook me.

I just want to bring him home.
He has been in the hospital for 12 weeks on wednesday and it looks like it will be at least 3 or 4 until we get him home.
I am so tired but have to find the strength to get up the hospital at least three times a day to feed him...plus look after the others.

I don't mean to winge I know their are people worse off but I just want him to come home. :(

Permission to share your grief and disappointment Lisa - it hardly classifies as whinging :(

Hang in there, and lots of love to you and Maxx

Goodness, honey, I dont know anyone who would accuse you of whingeing!!! You've been through hell already, and then to have this happen... you must be exhausted and just emotionally wrecked! I dont know how you do it, but you have been so strong for your little man and your family. You should be so proud of yourself, hun, you really should. You're doing a wonderful job!

Don't worry about anyone else right now, babe. Just take care of you and your darling family, and be kind to yourself. We're all behind you 100%!!!

oh lisa, that's rough and it's perfectly understandable to feel disappointed that maxx won't be home as soon as you'd like.

Gosh Lisa! How scary for you :(

You have been through so much the last couple years, first with Indy and now Maxx, and I must say you are a true inspiration. You show such strength and are doing a totally amazing job with your family.

Please remember, the Perth girls would love nothing more to be able to help you in any way we can. Nothing is too big and too small - please don't be too proud to ask us if you need anything.

Big hugs to you, Maxx and your family xxx
