I got a phone call at 6am this morning to say that they have had to put Maxx back on CPAP and have started him on two antibiotics...gentamicin and vancomycin.
He had some really bad patches of bradycardia's/apnea with colour change...heartrate drop and stopped breathing and turned blue.
He has been snotty for about a week and a half. They did a PNA last Monday and it grew Staph...but his CRP was only 5 so they didn't think it needed treatment.
All his brady's/apnea started about the same time as the snotty nose (not a coincidence)
They think it may be rhinovirus...but they are doing a full blood screen and another PNA and a chest x-ray.
If it is rhinovirus he can stay in an open cot were he is but if it is something that is spread through the air then he will have to go back into an incubator in isolation.
It seems like a huge step backwards and I am starting to think that we will never get him home.
It really highlights how vulnerable he still is. :(

I am sure he will fight thru this as he is a fighter but why should he have to go thru it?
It is so hard to watch what he has been thru wanting to take it all on myself rather then him have to suffer thru it.
He is three months old on Wednesday...for three months I have only been able to mother my son from afar.
We have both missed out on so much...things that I took for granted with my older three.
Bringing your tiny newborn home, the excited family, congratulations and gifts. Everyone happy.
Instead no one came near us, no one congratulated us...his birth was surrounded with fear and doubt.

I cannot begin to imagine the journey you and Maxx have been on for the last 3 months.

You are doing a great job and so is Maxx, his triumphs so far in life have already outweighed the setbacks.
Hopefully his homecoming is not too far away and you can maybe throw a party or have a naming ceremony when he is ready to be at home so that you can all celebrate his journey.

Hugs Lisa x

((((big hugs))))) Lisa, both you and he have been through so much, as mums we just want to protect our kids. He's a strong boy (which I think he gets from his mum) and I'm sure he will be on the mend soon and home with you before you know it.
