ROP is Retinopathy of prematurity
Quote:It is an eye disease that affects prematurely born babies. It is thought to be caused by disorganized growth of retinal blood vessels which may result in scarring and retinal detachment. ROP can be mild and may resolve spontaneously, but may lead to blindness in serious cases. As such, all preterm babies are at risk for ROP, and very low birth weight is an additional risk factor
There are 4 stages of ROP...1 being the mildest and 4 being the worst...at stage 3 laser treatment is performed.
Maxx was tested from 32 weeks in hospital...by 36 weeks he had stage 2 zone 2 in both eyes.
We had another eye test today and fortunately the ROP has resolved itself and there was no sign of it. Woohoo!!!
We don't have to go back for 6 months and if that is all clear too then we will see them yearly.
We did the same with Indy but she only had stage 1 in one eye.
So relieved!!!
It was such a fun trip with all three of them...they certainly keep me on my toes...and if one more person told me I had my hands full I was going to scream!!
I really need to get myself a pram for three!
