Hi there ladies,

I thought this might be the best place for this.

Has anyone ever got a cold sore just before finding out they were pregnant? I woke up this morning with a tingly lip, then realised I was getting a cold sore. I'm not too happy about it because ds is 8 today and his party is on Saturtay. I haven't had one for 2 years or more and I never get them when AF arrives. I am currently 11 dpo. Could I be pregnant and the hormones are the cause? :)

Any help would be much aprreciated, thanks.

I didnt have it, but i think its got something to do with a lowered immune system, you're more suseptible to viruses and colds etc..

I hope you get the result you're looking for!!!

Thanks for the reply ladies. Hopefully I'll get a BFP soon, but not holding my breathe just yet with how I'm going lately. I think I have 2 days to go until AF so fingers crossed for me. Can you send me some baby dust please? :)

I got cold sores very early on in both my pregnancies I also got nodules which are very very big spots that are under the skin they were on my chin and very sore. both times I did a test and got bfp! My skin returned back to normal at about 12 weeks it could very well be a hormonal change, not pretty at all but worth it, good luckx

Thanks Victoria,

I should find out soon AF is supposed to turn up on Sunday or Monday. I am still having a few cramps every now and then but I really hate this cold sore. I hope that I am pregnant and I don't have it for nothing. I never get them when AF arrives.

I hope everyone is doing well with not too much m/s.

Thanks again.

Almost everybody gets them sometimes – cold sores, herpes, fever blisters, or whatever you like to call them. They are often associated with a somewhat weaker immune system. Because of this, cold sores are more common in pregnancy. The good news is that you have nothing to worry about but an unpleasant sore if you have had a herpes outbreak before, and you are not just about to give birth. You do, however, have to exercise caution with using over the counter remedies for cold sores.

When you notice those familiar signs of a herpes outbreak, it is best to get in touch with your healthcare provider to ask what remedies they recommend. Common over the counter creams that fight cold sores, like Acyclovir or Valtrex and especially prescription drugs are best avoided in pregnancy. More natural cures for herpes, like tooth paste on the spot of the fever blister, or tea tree oil treatments, do not work as well and as fast, but are safer while you are expecting a baby. As always, there are always pros and cons, and they are best discussed with your doctor.
