I was speaking to the ob performing my amnio today about my concerns about being overweight and having an amnio. He said weight does not increase the risks of the amnio however he believes overweight women are more likely to have premature rupture of membranes. Would love to hear from thos people who have had premature rupture of membranes, were you underweight, normal range, overweight or obese? Would just be interesting to see the M & B statistics. Hope it doesn't offend.

I've had PROM with both my babies.

With Nate (35 wks) I was in the normal range and with Liliana (38 wks) I was borderline normal to underweight.

My OB had me on rolling antiobiotics (3 different types taken continuosly throughout the entire pg) from 12 weeks with Liliana as he believed that a "sneaky infection" was more likely to cause PROM than anything else in my case. Oh and no SEX until 39 weeks; which we never made LOL Poor DH

I went into premature labour at 35 weeks but my waters needed to be broken. I was in the healthy weight range before I got pregnant (*sigh* those were the days   ) and only gained around 9kgs throughout the pregnancy.

My waters broke at 25 weeks. I was not overweight at all. On the small side of normal actually. BMI 20

They did as many tests as they could and couldnt find any reason why they would have broken

I had a hindquarter leak at 32 weeks with Lucas, ending in an emergency c-section at 35 weeks, and I was obese. I was heavier when pregnant with Grace and nothing happened until my elective c-section at 38 weeks.

My OB thinks it could have been an infection, or a virus, or just 'cause. I had fortnightly vaginal swabs with Grace - and they never turned anything up at all.

Fantasia, (can't help you on the topic as I have only ever been 0.5 BMI points over the healthy weight range for my last pregnancy & never had a membrane rupture without help and not at all for one pregnancy)

Being overweight or obese does put you at a higher risk for a lot of things, it certainly doesn't mean that its a given that you will have those complications. And being overweight is not the only risk factor for complications of any sort.

Plenty of oveweight women have no problems whatsoever during their pregnancies and labour. Your best best is to eat healthily, minimise weight gain, some exercise, plenty of rest, follow your OB's/health professional's advice and try to stop yourself from worrying about anything and everything and stay positive. If you do have complications in your pregnancy you and your baby will be better equipped to handle them.

Hope I don't offend, just you seem to stress an awful lot, sit back and enjoy your pregnancy, because it will be over before you know it. If you ever want to chat, you are on my facebook :D

Yes Zeus I know I am a stress head and that is my nature, nothing will change that. to make it even worse current complications are making my stress levels even worse. I know people try to reassure you by saying don't stress and that is lovely but with the current complications regardless of what people say I will stress until I have results in my hands and even then imagine I will continue to stress as as I have said it is the way I am. I know my posts sound paranoid and all that but it is the way I always have been and always will be, I am not the take it as it comes kind of person. I know being overweight can cause pregnancy complications however my pregnancy with Hayden was so easy, never any diabetes, pre eclampsia or whatever it was a text book pregnancy. He was a week overdue and still then had to be delivered by c section as he didnt want to budge after induction. Thank you anyway for your concern and advice bear with me being a stress head.

Thanks to everyone for your responses just thought it would be interesting to ask as I was obese with Hayden and had no issues so thought it would be interesting to see if PROM was an issue more so for overweight women.
