I am still perservering with breastfeeding then giving him a bottle afterwards, i love breastfeeding so will keep doing it until i cant or he wont. DH is absolutly in love with his little man, i love watching them together Wub

Hey i thought i would our list over!

Clare, it sound wonderful, it is so amazing isn't it? having only just met someone and yet feel like you have known them all your life!!!!!

you little man is just gorgeous!

with your breastfeeding are you pumping after feeds? i don't know if anyone has told you but even if you aren't getting anythign your are still stimulating which tell your bodie to produce more! good luck, i too am loving the breastfeeding!

AFU, well home and feels so great, Hamish is so in aw of his little brother, we have had some moments but all in all everything is great!
BF is so much better this time around even with the formula we had to give early (as Harrison sugar levels dropped) my milk came in on day 3 and even though i we did some damage everything feels fine now!
I was thinking i was having a girl all the way up untill labour then i had a panic and made sure DH and i had agreed on a boys name, which was lucky lol!
though i have since realised i have a harry who lives on potters road hmmm! Blushing he is our little wizard!

having some late nights as Harry's seems to have is clock around the wrong way, he sleeps well in the day and is a nigh owl at night! so doing some tricks me learnt with Hamish, like moving his basinette into the lounge in theday and not wrapping him for day naps... slowing getting there, last night was better!

Hope all other mums and bubs are doing well!

Hi March Mummies...LOL LOL

Wow - new thread - we are here already and a month ago I felt I wasn't prepared for birth!!!

Now that we home (after 8 days in hospital) things are all good... DS1 and DS2 very cute with their little sister, "Thats my sister" type arguments and my oldest is even trying to teach her - his name... by repeating it at her constantly.... its so cute to watch... hardest bit about DS1 and DS2 is not being able to carry them (approx 16-18kgs) after the c-section... like put them in the car - or put them on a chair...

Chelsea is feeding well and sleeping well - and while we tried to keep up a 3 hourly feed schedule after hospital (feed in first hour, sleep the next 2 hours) - its more like "on demand" feeding - because sometimes during the night she does the 3 hourly schedule but during the day - she may feed for 10-15 minutes - fall asleep for 30-40 minutes and wake and want a feed again - then either sleep again - or be awake for 20 minutes looking at everything - and trying to burp and then want the "boob" again to help her fall asleep.... But had a follow up paedatrician check up yesterday - and she's almost put all her birth weight back on - and doing really well....

Gotta go - thats her now....LOL LOL LOL waking up from short sleep - cos didn't really do a "burp" after last feed - was too deep in sleep!

Oh the fun of new borns... LOL LOL

Chucky Glad to hear that Chelsea has settled in well, the boys must be so proud of her! I'm demand feeding Ryder and it is every 3 hours almost to the minute lol, he must have a great body clock!

Ducky I started expressing after feeds in the hospital and have kept it up at home, my milk hasnt increased but i am going to keep doing it just incase. Ryder is still happy BF'ing, im releived the bottle hasnt turned him off the boob.
you're little wizard, how cute! how are the long nights going? How is Hamish? no jelousy yet?

Ryder had his athome appt today and he has put on 400g in 2 weeks, he's going to be a chubby bubby lol. I cant complain (so far) he is sleeping well in between feeds + DH is being so helpful on the weekends so i can get my rest. I just wish i had some motivation to do some housework, i find myself on the couch as soon as Ryders asleep and im getting annoyed at myself, i know i should be resting especially after c-section but theres so much i want done! is anyone feeling the same? or have felt that way before? hoping it passes soon.

Dont forget to post many pics girls, i love looking at all your baby shots!!

Hi girls Smile

Sounds like everyone is going really well!

Im still hanging in with the breastfeeding, just expressing at the moment to give the nipples a break. Id given up at this point last time from them being cracked & bleeding - and with no support from the hospital...now its changed to "breastfeeding super hospital" and they go out of their way to help which is nice. Got a lil worried yest as I could only express 30ml every 3 hrs, the midwife rang & said Jake should be having up to 90ml every 3 hrs so to top him up with formula. Gave him two bottle feeds & expressed late last night & still only got 60ml....then through the night he had 1 more formula feed & I expressed this morning & got 2 90ml lotsSmile Smile I know its only cause i hadnt done it for 6hrs, but im hoping it hangs around.

DP is heading back up nth for work today. Those 3 wks went so fastCrying ... He's away for the week then home just for the weekend then off again for 2 weeks... Id be fine I think if I had had a V birth, its just like you said Claire, not being able to do anything, lift, drive etc is frustrating. Especially since I have been doing it all on my own for the whole pregnancy. I feel guilty I cant pick up my 18mth oldSad He still hasnt acknowledged Jake, every now & then he'l wave at himWub , but really hasnt paid any attention to him, where as big big brother just loves him to pieces & doesnt leave him alone, LOL

Jake tho is going great guns, he lost 380g in hospital, then was back up to 4.6kg at his 1 wk check. He looks like a 1mth old already, lol. Chubby bubbyWub

Gorgeous bubs ladies Smile

I can't believe Alesea is already one week old! It still seems like she was born yesterday.
The child health nurse came around to see how she is doing and shes already over her birth weight by quite a bit Scared (A couple days ago she was 170g under) Babies really pack the weight on!
Breast feeding is not easy! My boobs are too full and it's making attatchment difficult, which has resulted in some nasty cracks ouch! But I'm determined to stick with it as long as possible.
Quick question, how long would you let your bubs sleep in between feeds? Alesea has taking a liking to having very long sleeps during the day and night, but I hate waking her up.

Coopsmum: Nawww Jake is so chubby and cute!!! Wub Sounds like breast feeding is about the same for us at the moment. It's so tempting to give up! I think I might have to buy a pump so mine can have a break also lol.

Clare: I'm lacking the motivation to do anything too... It was such a struggle doing the washing this morning lol. You have a much better excuse than me! (c-section)

Chucky: Sounds like you have some very proud older brothers there! I also tried to keep to a schedule, but it's definately failed haha.

Ducky: Awww your little wizard! Wub Alesea had/has her clock around the wrong way too... In hospital the midwife had to take her out because DP and I didn't get any sleep for a few days lol. I think she kept the whole ward awake oops!

Carissa, if Alesea is happy, sleeping well and having plenty of wet nappies (about 7 a day), then you don't really need to wake her for feeds, she should do it herself! but every 4 hours is about standard! i hope your engorgement has gone down, Harry struggled with it too!

Chucky, Chelsea sounds like she feeds like Harry, he is a 3 hour feeder, but sometimes he like to cluster feed! and i feel like i am feeding every hour!

Dani, good luck, breastfeeding isn't easy and you are doing a fantastic job, there is nothing wrong with giving those sore (.Y.) a break

Clare, i am glad that Ryder still likes the breast, and there are many stories of women of doing sucessful combination feeding!

I can sympathise with the sore a cracked nipples, i think no matter what i will always get sore nipples at the begining of breastfeeding simply because they are so big, and more this time as i felt i had to force feed Harry to begin with (because of his low levels) but all i can say it is does get better, the pain goes they heal (if not then please go get some help as you may be doing it wrong) and eventually you will love it!!!!
so good luck

AFU, well Hamish loves his little brother, absoluety fascinated with him, especially when i am feeding, he likes to sit on my knee aswell (makes it a little hard) though he does have his moments where he couldn't care less and even moments on jealously (with some pretty close calls) but all in all he has really settled in with it all!
Harry has given me 5 hours between feeds the last couple of nights, it is like clock work, i feed him at 9pm then he is up at 2am, then we go to back to a 3hour feed at 5am and then 2 and 1/2 hours, then there is no real routine in the day! sometimes he goes 3hours sometimes 4 sometime (more often) 2hours

Oh and today is my due date! that is soo weird!

i hope you are all doing well! and getting some sleep! LOL

Ducky: Yep plenty of wet nappies Smile I've started expressing by hand in the shower and thats helping quite a bit yay.

Alesea managed to spray paint my top, pants and shoes just before her check-up with the nurse LOL LOL LOL When we finally managed to get there the nurse gave me a whole heap of breast feeding information and support numbers, which is good because breast feeding has started going down hill the last couple of days boo. I was also so shocked to find out she had gained 195 grams in 4 days Scared BigGrin

I hope everyone and their bubs are going well Wub

Breastfeeding isn't going to great sadly. Crying Cracked, bleeding and extremely sore. After some much needed advise and support I've decided to express and use a bottle (only 1-2 feeds during the night) until at least the most damaged side has healed up. I'm becoming so emotional over this whole situation, I was so determined to 100% breastfeed...

On a happier note hows everyone else going?

Sorry if this post doesn't make much sense. I'm upset and angry.

Oh Carissa please don;t be upset! remember a happy mummy is a happy baby, so do whatever is best for you!!!!!
if you need to express then express!!!! have you seen a lactation consultant???? have you called ABA?
breastfeeding is certainly not easy!!!! you are doing your best!!!! hang in there! and don;t worry i am sure whatever you do you do for the best of Alesea!

AFU, Harry was weighed today and has gained 495grms from his birth weight and 565grms since discharge (11 days ago) so very happy!!!!
he is becoming a cuddler though and likes to be cuddle to sleep... not the easiest thing to do with a toddler and not something i like to do in the middle of the night, but someday he will grow out of it and hate to cuddle his mum so ill enjoy while i can lol!!!!

DH is working still, he was supposed to be taking time off, but has only really had 1 day off since i have been home!!! very frustrating! not that i can't handle the 2 it is more i was really looking forward to spending time with him!!!

Harry is going to be circumcised tommorrow! i know some of you may be against it but it is something DH and i feel strongly for! well for our family anyways (history of problems on my side), and i got a call from the doctor who wants to see Harry, something to do with is dsicharge notes, it does say of them that they want him checked at 6 weeks (for a slighty undecended teste, and clicky hips) but nothing else... i guess they are just being thorough, but it does worry me a little (even though they said it wasn;t urgent)

Besides that all is good! sleeping is ok (haven;t got anymore 5 hours gaps damn!) feeding is great and even though i ordered one that doesn't poo every day i got a every change pooer! lol

hope everyone else is doing well!!! and hanging in there????

Carissa Im in the same boat. I had cracked & bleeding nipples with my 1st 2 boys, and from that I gave up/in at 3weeks. Mind you they were only 14mths apart, so in my opinion I felt I was doing the right thing as I couldnt be the mummy I needed to be for both boys. Where as this time Im trying my hardest to hang in with the boobs, Im soley expressing then every 2nd day & give him a go again and it seems to be workingSmile Please dont beat yourself up over it. As Ang said, happy mummy = happy baby Smile

And Ang, Jake is getting circumsised on tues... I dont know why its still such a taboo subject really. Its personal/family choice & each to their own. DP isnt done, but i let him decide wether he wanted the boys done & he chose to go with it as he had multiple probs when he was a kid & remembers how bad it was & didnt want our boys to have dramas like he did.

AFU, going great here, Im feeling good, little bit stir crazy being hm all the time, but good.BigGrin Got Jake weighed & he's back to birth weight, so Im happy with that.

oop, gotta run xx

Thanks for the support ladies! Wub Wub
We have only had to use a bottle once so far, but I've got a little too much EBM in the fridge now lol. I'm hanging in there by telling myself every day is different with breastfeeding (and hoping for more good days like yesterday haha).

Ducky: I hope it all goes well at the doctors! Do they want to see him now or can it wait until the 6 week check up?
Alesea is a cuddler too and I don't think DP would have it any other way either LOL
I've been speaking to my child health care nurse and some staff from King Edward (lactation consultants) But the most helpful person has definately been DP. He hasn't pushed me into giving up (actually pushed me to continue), even though it hurts him seeing me in pain.

Coopsmum: How often do you express? I've been a little slack on it Blushing But it's definately giving my nipples a chance to heal themselves.
And yes happy mum = happy baby! On the nights I handle myself better Alesea actually goes to sleep and barely cries BigGrin

So sorry to crash ladies, first and foremost, CONGRATS on all the beautiful babies!!!!!

I was reading that some of you have sore boobs and engorgement. I too suffered when my now 2 yr old was born. I was given 2 tips that saved my BF journey

1) I was told to express enough milk (and save it ) at the beginning of the feed just to make my nipple soft enough that he could attach

2) whenever you can, express some BM onto the nipple and sit outside in the direct sunlight for 3-5 mins (no longer you dont wanna burn them Blushing )

I did the second also due to grazed nipples and i found within a couple of days the pain was subsiding

Hope this helps someone.

Congrats again

Hey ladies! How are we all doing? Sorry i've been MIA lately but we have only just got the internet connected at home. A big big thankyou to Staceyb for announcing my lil arrival! Eva is doing well growing fast and enjoying being BF yay for me!!! She is almost 3 weeks old YIKES can you believe it!!! It all happened really quickly. Went to see my GP on friday the 11th to check my blood pressure which was still high but my protein in my urine had gone sky high. On the Monday they tested it and the level was 3.2 then on the Wednesday they tested it again and the result was 53.2 so my GP was in a panic. So we packed everything up for the kids, got our oldest out of school dropped them at my inlaws and then went down to the hospital. When we got there they gave me a pill to try and lower my BP but it didn't work. The doctor came in and broke my membrane about 6ish. Then about 9ish they put me on a drip to get my BP down (magnesium sulphate) and put a cathiter (sp) in (not very nice) lol!!! Then a different doctor came in to see me at 1am and broke my waters. And it was all history after that. 1 hour and 24 minutes later Eva Lee entered the world. Born 2 weeks and 2 days before her due date and weighing in at 7pd 1oz. My smallest baby so far. She 49cm long. I will put my birth story in later i'm getting harrassed to get off the pc (mind you i have only just got on it)!!! Breast feeding is going well except for the fact that i'm starting to feel like all i do is feed!! lol

Are we still waiting on anyone else?

Bearycute: It's good to hear Charlotte is doing reallt well! Smile How was the baby expo? I'd love to go to one, but I doubt there's any near here boo.

Mooch 83: Thanks for the tips hun! I've started expressing when my boobs are full and it's definately making attachment easier and more comfortale.

Mishasmum: I can't wait to read your full birth story! I still need to get mine up, but I haven't had enough time to actually sit down and write it haha.

Update time yay! BigGrin
I can't believe how fast the last 3 weeks have gone by (even if I've been up almost every night lol) Breastfeeding is gradually getting better, but my mother is still pressuring me to formula feed because Alesea plays up 4 out of 5 days during the night... I can't see how switching to formula will help? I called Ngala and they think she still confused between day and night and we will just need to hang in there.

I'm guessing everyone is super busy and has no time to jump on LOL I wish I had an extra thing to do because living in the middle of no where with my parents is driving me nuts! Brick wall

lol Carissa, i too live middle of nowhere, well not really but an hour from the nearest major town! (and my family and friends)
i am no here just reading not updating much!
I think it is a phase they go thorugh the platying up, i have to admit most night Harry is pretty good, going 3 hours between feeds and going back to sleep straight away, but day time is terrible, all he wants to do is be held! and i am sur ei went thorugh this with Hamish so just hanging in there untill it passes!

As for formula, well people kept telling me to put Hamish on formula or do formula top ups as he still doesn;t sleep through (some nights lately he has been up more then Harry) and when i did give him some at 9 months (which caused him weaning himself at 10months) it didn;t help at all!!!!

if Alesea is gaining enough weight the she is getting enough... hang in there, you are her mother you are doing what you think is best...

well was going to update us, but i am now typing with one hand with Harry crying again in my arms... will update soon though

Hey ladies,
How are you all doing? Well Eva is still being good as gold. She has an unsettled time of an afternoon which is really starting to get annoying. Just a tea time!!
Just a quick question, i'm thinking about getting a breast pump so that i can express some milk so that DP can feed and so that i can occasionally get 5 minutes to myself. Does anyone have bad experiences with electric pumps? I've got one on layby but i'm not sure if i really do need it or if i need to spend so much money on one. lol decisions, decisions!!!

hey Kristy,
I have got the medela mini electric breast pump which is good for occasional pumping, i paid $170... one tip i have is it got harder to pump later on (after 3months) Blink because i wasn;t doing it often enough.. so try and continue with it or store abit up (i have 3 bags in the freezer)

well children are hopefully napping (so maybe i should be too) so i get to update!
The doctor appointment was just about Harry's slightly undecended testicle which was supposed to be checked at his 6week appointment but the doctor wanted to be thorough and he is being thorough, the teste has decended but there is some fluid around it, and he wants us to get is checked by a surgeon, i am not too worried as Hamish had fluid around his and when checked at 6 weeks was gone!
had a better night sleep as my toddler was up as much! thank you lord!
Harry is feeding so much better and it is getting quicker!!!! but everytime i put him down about 10 mins later he will let out a scream and by the time i get into him (he is in a nursery as DH is a sleep walker and i din't trust him with Harry in our room) he is asleep... abit annoying!
we have been out and about on our own a couple of times now and has been pretty good, Harry travels well which helps too!
all in all everything is going well!!

We got some very exciting new last night DH sister is pregnant!!!! yay and with identicle twins!!! after 3 years on IVF finally they get there babies!!!!! i am very excited and so happy for them!

Hi Everyone

Sorry i have been MIA for so long! Time got away from me and I was so busy getting organised for the baby that I didnt have a chance to even get on here!

I just thought I would let you all know that I had a beautiful baby girl, Alexandria Chantelle, on the 2nd of March at 2:14pm after being induced at 39 weeks (hospital policy) due to being on insulin because of gestational diabetes. She weighed 6lb 14oz or 3.13kg and was 50cm long. I am so glad after all the complications we had along the way that she is finally here and I can see her for myself.

When I went in to be induced I was already a couple of cm dilated so I didnt need the gel. My midwife broke my waters at about 10am and I was having very light contractions till about 10am when they started getting quite strong. After that it was fast and furious! My contractions got very strong very quick and by about 1:45 I was 10 cm dialted and ready to push. I pushed for about 20 minutes and she was born! It all happened so quickly, I was very lucky it was short. I opted for gas and morphine and was begging for the epidural but it was too late for that, so I had to do it on my own which I am grateful for now. When she started crowning my midwife brought in a big mirror on a stand to put at the end of the bed so I could see and once I saw her little head I was determined to get her out so I could meet her!! Needless to say I was shocked when I saw she was a girl because all along I had a feeling it was a boy but I am so glad!

I'm breastfeeding although it wasn't easy at the beginning. I had to use nipple shields because of my cracked sore nipples and she went through a phase where she wanted to eat ALL the time (apparently stimulating my milk supply, my midwife told me) but now we have settled into a loose routine and I'm glad I stuck with it. The nipple shields were a godsend for those who have the same problem but are only meant to be temporary as they can reduce your milk supply. I had no problems weaniing Alexandria off them though, and I don't know if i could have continued without them.

Congratulatins to everyone else on their beautiful new babies!! And I will definitely try to make it back here more often!! I know I'll find it helpful to hear from other who are going through what I am!! and will probably ned lots of advice although Idont know how much i can give back being a first time muum!!

Sorry for the long post. Will catch up soon!
