After going to the gyni a few weeks ago and walking out with forms for all the starting tests i felt flat. I knew the tests would cost a lot and we just could not afford them. Hubby and i made the tough decission to let it go and shed many tears.

However, i found out yesterday we are entitled to a healthcare card. So now everything can be bulkbilled as our pathology doesn't bulkbill without one unfortunately. I am so happy and relieved now that we can have these tests done and she what path we go down for treatment.
So next week i will have a mid luteal progesterone test done to see if i ovulated and some hormones tested, hubby has to have a sperm count done and i also have to have a hysterosalpingogram done. Has anyone else ever had one of these done? It is to find out if my falopian tubes are still open and working. So fingers crossed the results are good.
Would love to hear from anyone who has had similar tests done.
Thanks.

Great news about the HCC because IVF can be very expensive Goodluck I really hope this can make your dreams come true

A HSG is generally done at the beginning of IVF along with all the other tests, just to make sure things are in working order and if need be then they can at least fix any problems that arise before you actually start IVF.

It's not a painful procedure more uncomfortable then anything although I did have a bit of cramping afterwards but it didn't last long.

Thank you so much ladies.
Can i be dumb and ask what does HCC stand for. Sorry this is all so new for me.

We are really hoping that once these test results come back all we will need is medication to get my body working correctly. Hubby and I have already decided and we decided this before we had DS that for us IVF is not an option. I know i would not handle the emotional side of it and we can't afford it financially either. So we shall explore all other options first and see what happens.

Will keep you all posted as I know I am going to need somewhere to talk about everything and let things out.

Thank you so much for listening and sharing

Thanks Nat. I am guessing the two tests are the same. Will have to wait until next month to have that done as apparently it can only be done on days 8-11.
Can anyone tell me, how technical does everything become? Hubby is worried that it will get to us having to have sex at a particular time on certain days. Now i know that you have to have sex within certain cycle days but does it get nitty gritty?
Hubby said if it gets to much he wants go pull the pin which i think is a little unfair. Guess we will have to see how i go and what our test results show. Test one went to lab yesterday and i'll have my bloods done on monday then back to gyni on the 19th.
Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Hi Aimee - great news about the health care card!

DH and I had all those tests done last time we were TTC and got the all clear from all of them. I was pretty happy to have the all clear in one sense, but then when the fertility specialist said to come back in 2 years if i wasn't pregnant I was so upset!

My experience of a hysterosalpingogram was fairly painless really. No more uncomfortable than a pap smear and quite quick. I did have mild cramping afterwards for a few hours, but no worse than AF cramps... Good news is that I have read that your fertility actually increases for 3 months after a HSG as your tubes are cleared out - and I actually ended up falling pg with DD naturally 3 months after i had it done, so maybe it is true!

GL with it all - i hope you get some answers and that everything goes really well.

About how technical things become, i can't imagine that they would get too much more technical than telling you to DTD every 2nd day around the middle of your cycle - it never got any more technical than that for us anyway!

Thank you for that info Amelia. Very interesting about fertility increasing for 3 month after a HSG.
I rang up to book in to have mine done as was told they only do them between days 8 and 11 of your cycle so it will have to be done next cycle. Wish the gyno had told me that but oh well does not matter.
I had my bloods done yesterday and am back to the gyno next tuesday.

Will be interesting to see what the results of my bloods and hubby's semen anaylisis show. Fingers crossed its not to drastic.

Thanks Casey.

Well I was sooooo vervous this morning I felt sick.
Appointment went well. Hubbys semen analysis was fine and normal which is good. Most of my hormones were good however my progesterone level was extremely low 18.2 for those who understand the levels. So I did not ovulate last month.
Off to have the Hysteroslapingogram done on tuesday morning then back to gyno in 2 months. I can call up for results tuesday arvo though.
Have to chart cycles and menstral flow between now and then and if scan shows tubes are open then we start Clomid in september if it shows they are not open well we will discuss that then. Bummed I have to wait until september before we start but he wants a few months worth of cycle patterns to see if they are staying the same. So far i have had 2 or 3 at 35 days.

So not much progress today but all reasonably good news. Gyno is ginving us an 83% sucess rate to fall pregnant.

Thank you all for your good luck.
I am feeling really positive about it all so thats a good start.Dancing

Nattie a HysteroSalPingoGram is a scan that it done to see if the falopian tubes are unblocked, open and flowing freely. You lye like you would to have a pap smear done and a tube is inserted into your uterus then a radio dye is injected through the tube to the uterus which is then flushed through to the tubes. If the tubes are unblocked the dye will flow straight through and out the ends into the stomach cavity. If they are blocked then it wont. All this can be seen via an exray scan I believe. I can let you know exactly on tuesday once i have had it done.

I am hanging out til september now to start the clomid and get the ball rolling properly. I have heard Clomid is not a nice drug, can anyone share some experiences and info please.

It is so nice to have this forum and all you lovely ladies to talk to and ask questions and share with. Thank you so muchBigGrin
