Madelyn has had a dummy since she was 3 weeks old I think. She's is now 5 months and can't go to sleep without it and is especially dependent on it when teething. But mostly she only uses it at night. And it is a lifesaver when she is upset.

Both of mine were introduced to it in hospital as both were sucky babies, it was either my boob or my finger so a dummy helped. Lexie still has hers of a night but Zeke ditched his at 3? months old and opted for the thumb.

we used one from a week or so old with DS1 and he gave it up at 4 months after a bout of sickness made his gag reflex super sensitive and made him throw up every time it went in his mouth.

with DS2 I introduced one at a week old as well as he would not settle unless feeding or comfort sucking, later got diagnosed with reflux (seems a common trend). we are trying to limit the use though, he needs it directly after a feed for a few minutes, then I just use it if he gets a bit grizzly close to sleep time if I am busy doing something for DS1 and can't attend to him right away. we always make sure he goes to sleep without it though as I dont' want him waking up in the night without it and crying for it/us. so far its working a treat.

Ryan has had one since about 2-3 days old.I didnt want to use one as I had heard they were hard to get rid of,however after him screaming while I changed his nappy etc and seeing the other Mums with quiet babies with dummies I was like "Get me a dummy!!!"

He is 8 months now and still has it,but only uses it when he goes to bed.Not really sure of when to get rid of it but I am sure its ok for nowSmile

Almost after 2 to 3 months as by then she was young enough to hold it and not hurt her in anyways.....

Jack had one from birth until he was 3 years old.

Rihanna had one from 6 weeks old, much to her protest, but she just wanted booby all the time, and it got exhausting.
