hi abbey. my doc/hospital, and also my previous hospital where i had the girls, wouldnt do the Cs before 39 weeks. i;ve heard some doing them at 38 but i am not sure why. my doc said they wont do it before 39 weeks,so mine is booked for their dates of 39w2d so far- well, its pencilled in becaus ei asked for a rough date due to hubby needing to [ut in for time off work. most of the time they dont book a date til you are around 32 weeks or so unless you need to know earlier. i;ve never heard of anywhere doing a planned CS at 40 weeks- its always been 38 or 39 weeks. i would assume they wait til 39 weeks so that bub has as much time inside as possible, and wouldnt do it before then to allow for the fact sometimes dates can be out by up to a week or more so if they do it at 39, and your dates were out and bub is actually only 38 weeks gestation, then they should still be ok. whereas if they did it at 38 then if your dates are out by like 10 days then technically bub would be classed as a prem iygwim? your dates dont seem too bad, he;s prob tried to look at it for 38 weeks and the actual day of 38 weeks might not be convenient so he's chosen the next available day which is 37w6d. i personally would prefer if my OB did it between 38 and 39, not 39-40 as he is- mostly because, its only a few days before my birthday and dd3's birthday and i;d like to at least be able to get up and make her a cake but at this stage i wont be able to :(
i almost always hear of mums with gestational diabetes having their planned CS/inductions at 38 weeks so that the baby isnt too big. i've seen a GD baby where the mum didnt know she had it- it was 5kg and broke its arm coming out because of its size and being a quick labour (my dd2 was in the nursery for a week, and this baby came in just before midnight when my dd2 was 2 days old, it had just been born and the poor thing just screamed for hours on end cos its arm was in pain :( i went over because i couldnt help it, the mum in you just wants to coo to it and try and make it feel better but even the middies didnt stand a chance to stop her from crying in pain)
well i scored a double electric breast pump for $50! tried it out tonight and it works so happy with that :) i got 15 mls, did a bit of each side. i also have an at-home heart monitor, its one you strap on, not a doppler-type. mostly hear bub kicking, the hearbeat it a lot quieter and takes a while to find too.
i was hoping to do some things for this baby that i havent done before- so far, i;ve got the 4d scan done and got the athome heart monitor. but i also wanted to get maybe some nice preggo shots done, and maybe a belly cast or belly painting. i thought maybe someone would throw me a baby shower- but i dont need anything lol so it would have to just be games and food which i;m fine with, but i doubt its gonna happen. hubby said something that made me think someone was, but if someo9ne is then its def not the person i thought it might be :/ he said to me one day when i mentioned having to go buy baby blankets 'oh i wouldnt go buying any more baby clothes' and i said why not? and he said 'cos i know something you dont know' and i freaked out thinking he was getting the sack= no money to buy baby clothes, he laughed and said nah its nothing like that. then i blurted out, off the top of my head 'is someone throwing me a baby shower then?' and he did ths thing he does when you catch him out trying to lie or keep a secret- he sorta squints his eyes and his smile gets so big he;s trying to half not laugh while saying no, if that makes sense. and thats qwhat he did, all the while saying no, its not that. so when i said oh is it X friend? she did get up me about how much ilve bought even tho she hasnt seen what i;ve got. and he kept saying no its not that, then we got to the shop and he;s like right lets change the subject. but i dunno, my friends here seem distant lately so it cant be that :/ so now dunno what the hell he meant, esp as the reaction he did is one where i;ve caught him out and i was right....
anyway, nothing much happening here. TMI alert, but this week i swear i thought i had a 'hindwater' leak... i know my bladder isnt that great, but this was different feeling to the bladder... i woke up one morning damp but i hadnt wet myself, and it wasnt CM it was fluid. then for the next few days i felt constantly wet all the time, was wearing liners, they werent getting saturated but were getting wet through the day. and then a few times i;d be sitting down or standing up and would feel some fluid bubble down out of my hoo-haaa- def not fro my bladder. but it wasnt a giant amount? anyway i;ve heard a hindwater leak can repair itself, which would seem correct as today it was much much better, nearly no dampness well not like its been since wednesday, for today. been too freaked out that i;d be asking tmi or that i;d be jumping the gun, to ask anyone about it.... i did go to the nurses station while up there last week but chickened out when nobody was there
oh and hows this for a big change. my maternity unit i'm staying at, has only got 6 beds. yep, 6. and only 1 labour room. and then there is a specific room for changing and bathing babies- seriously its as cold looking as an operating room- all metal and shelves etc. then there is a room where they 'store' the babies (i.e. like a nursery) but it has all the linen and towels etc. of course the middies stay with the babies at all times. they do have really good rooms though, max 2 per room and a nice lounge room for visitors/mums, and also a fenced playground for visiting families. so its not all that bad, this is compared to my previous maternity unit- it had, 14 rooms. out of those, only 1 was a single room. the rest had between 2 and 4 beds,(i know that at least 5 were double only rooms. the rest had 4, so you get my drift- a lot more beds!) they had 4 showers, 4 toilets. the nursery could cater for about 8 humidicribs plus standing room for the cots if need be, plus it had 2 lounge area;s for expressing and feeding, and an area to bathe babies plus a kitchen for all bottles/expressing equipment etc. and the labour ward had 6 rooms, including a birthing suite and 2 observation rooms which could turn into extra labour rooms if need be....
