We have 2 beautifull litle girls, so when we found out we were expecting a beautifull little boy we were shocked but so pleased..my husband was the last boy in the family so this also means our family name is carried on a little furthur
well here we go, let me start with my birth plan~ i could not have left hospital any happier than what i did with my birth an amazing experience!!
to birth calmly, to feel in control, a water birth either shower or bath was prefered to bed birth, and i wanted to stay upright as long as possible.. drugs if i asked for them.. other than that go with the flow and listen to my body!
here goes~
so we knew for 2 weeks that we were to be induced... so hard to keep a secret like that!!
thursday the 11th at 6pm we headed of to the hospital, leaving a very excited nanny to look after the girls!
when we arrived we were settled into the labour ward and the doctor done our first lot of gels :/ hmm yes that kick started everything!!
5am the next morning after a massive night of contractions all over the place i finally fell asleep.. 6am i was woken up to be told that at 7am the doctor would be in to break my waters.. we would meet our baby soon!
7am came and an internal done, i was sitting at 5cm with my waters about to explode lol.. they were given a helping hand (or pop :)..) and then straight away i had to jump up of the bed, they were strong and one on top fo the other, i headed for the bathroom!
7.30 am and its shower time.. the midwifes joke that i have to have this baby by 12 as they were getting chinese lunch they didnt want to miss out on :)..
in the shower i leant up against the wall with my legs like a frog.. not flatering but it helps bub to move down!! if i felt contractions were dying down i stood up and had 2sets then back down again, seemed to work for me.
i was having 3contractions one on top of the other than nothign for 8 min then another 3, i felt as though i was getting nowhere and i was getting very tired and upset with myself..
still breathing through contractions and trying to stay positive.. i was counting through contractions and saying 5 to 6....5 to 6.. (as in that contraction was taking me from 5cm to 6cm.. then the next hour i would swap to 6 to 7, it was a great distraction!)
at 10.20 am i asked for the gas to be turned on, i felt that i was starting to panic that our baby was never going to come..all i wanted was to be able to pull myself together and enjoy this experience for the last time.
the midwife (cheryl) assured me that when this baby fell into place that it would happen and fast i wasnt convinced at all, and was sure i was going to end up having a c-section
well not long after starting the gas i had pulled it all together.
then cherly came in to ask if i was feeling any preassure yet (10.45am) "nope not a thing.. go and enjoy a cuppa and ill buzz if i need you" ... well they walked out and i said to b this baby is never coming!!
just then a contraction hit that i had to stand up for..
and wham a feeling you never forget.. "b, press the buzzer..or get ready to catch"..
brendan then run around like mad pressing every buzzer, the midwifes came running in just as i dropped to the ground..
cheryl grabbed the mirror to have a look at bubs position, as i spread my legs for her to get the mirror under i pushed once and cheryl slid the mirror across the bathroom floor and caught a slimy little head :D
braxton was born at 11.10am
after pushing for 16min.face first, with an hand and arm up near his head and the cord around his neck, brendan cut the cord and got to hold our little man whilst i made my way to the bed to deliver the placenta. (YAY a shower birth it was AMAZING)
our little man was brought to me after being briefly checked and scoffed in a massive feed!..
~Braxton David Lilford.. 8lbs 5oz.. 50cmlong.. and 37cm head~
(after being checked over, they think he was only 36-37wks gest, so another 2 weeks till due date, he would have been MASSIVE! if we had left him to arrive on his own time i woudl hate to have known how big he would have been!)
he was quiet raspy and still not turning pink, they checked him over and he wasnt breathing welll on his own (his little body coudlnt figure out how to swap over his breathing), he had fluid on a lung and his blood sugar levels were all over the place and he wasnt a well little boy, he was taken into the humidi crib, chest xrays organised and bendigo was contacted for advice..
he was put on hourly feeds of breast milk offered then formula to top him up, as well as a big drink of glucose..his blood sugar was checked every feed for the first night. and then through the next day (once we got 4 good ones in a row we could stop attacking his little feet.. this happened day 2 int he afternoon)
a night of hourly feeds, then the next day on 2hourly feeds.. and i was finally allowed to cuddle our baby boy whenever i wanted!!
he came into my room, and into his own open crib
we came home monday, and i must say he is the most beautifull baby boy, we are all so in love with him!
he is still feeding every 2hours.. so i only get around 70min between feeds, but i figure he is a growing boy who needs loads of milk :D.
he hates his bassinet and cot at night, but will happily sleep in them during the day little bugger lol.. so at night he is in bed with mum and dad in a tetra bed, he loves snuggling in and being able to smell mumma close by ♥
well after that novel im now off to feed our braxton bear again.. and enjoy every newborn smell, sound and moment, our final addition to our family.. and he is perfect ♥
