Hi Girls,

Ok so this might sound like a really silly question but I seriously dont know. I would like to know what size your bub was in when he/she was born. And for how long were they in that size before they moved up?
I have heaps of 000 because knowing I am a tall person and so is DH, I have a feeling bubs will be around 8 pounds +. (weird theory lol)
I am wondering whether I will need 0000 or not?

Sorry again if this seems like a stupid question,
Thanks

DS1 was born at 3.4kgs and was in 0000 for about 4 weeks I think.
DS2 was born 3.3Kgs, but was in 0000 for about a week, and 000 for about 3 weeks after that! He grew so fast and all these lovely clothes I bought for him never got worn.
Stick with 000's and just roll up the arms if you need to :)

I can't see your ticker, but I think you are due in November? My DD was born in December and lived (literally) in a singlet and nappy for about 3 months, due to the heat (we are in Perth). Size 0000 and 000, there isn't all that much difference I found.
DD1 - December 2009 - breastfed for 22 months
DD2 - January 2012 - straight back onto the booby feeding bandwagon

DS was born at 3.2kg and was 3kg when discharged from hospital 3 days later and 0000 were huge on him!

We went out and bought a few 00000 wondersuit style jumpsuits so he would have something that fit. He wasn't in those for long - maybe 3-4 weeks.

He grew quite quickly after that - was in 0000 for a month or so then into 000 and then by Christmas (3 months after his was born), he was fitting into some 0's!!

Does your hospital provide clothes for bub whilst you are there? If not, when s/he is born, and if the 000 prove to be too big, your DH could always go and buy a couple of smaller suits.

I wouldn't be too worried about 'stocking' up on clothes - as Rosiejayne said, if it's hot, a singlet and nappy will be best, or jumpsuits (short and/or long sleeve) for the cooler climates.

Anything that isn't easy to put on and take off bub will quickly be moved to the back of the cupboard Wink Wink

My girls were both large (4kg and 4.5kg) they never fitted in 0000 clothes, I do have a few, luckily not many, but they have never yet been worn, maybe this bub will be a little smaller. I agree that summer babies don't need much in the way of clothing, my DD2 (november baby) wore one piece singlet suits over a nappy most the time.

Forgot to add, they were both in 00 by about 1 month and 0 by around 3 months so I didn't even get much wear out of 000 clothing

My 1st was 3.8kg and he wore 0000 for about 6 weeks - he did grow quickly though. He was a spring baby and even when it was hot he wore little outfit - we had aircon and I like to see babies dressed JMO.

My 2nd was 2.9kg and 00000 were far too big on him and he wore those for quite a while. He grew a lot slower. We didn't have massive amounts of clothes for either of them and they wore everything they had.

DS1 was 3.4kg and was in 0000's for about 6 weeks (he was a shortie)
DS2 was 3.3kgs and was in 0000's for about 5 weeks as he was so tall
DD was 3.2kgs (lost a lot of weight at the start as she was also 4 weeks prem) and was in 00000's to start with and is still in 0000's now at 7 weeks and will be for probably another 2 weeks I think as she is a lot slower to grow due to her being early etc

DS was about 8lb something, and he fitted into 0000's for about three - four weeks, he seemed to have long legs!

but that being said, I had him in those bonds baby nighties for the 1st few weeks, he was our 1st and I figured I have enough to worry about trying to work out which way was up without having to worry about clothes too!

I only started putting him in jumpsuits and things on a regular basis from 8-10 weeks I think.

I bought mostly 000 before DS was born, a few 0000. He was 7 pound 4, 50cm and was in 0000 for nearly two months and I ended up buying more. Which was fine by me because it was an excuse to go shopping Love

bella was 3kg even when born and in premmie size, which is smaller then 00000. she was in them for about 3wks then onto 0000 for ages after that
liam was 3.18kg and also in premmie clothes, but not for as long as bella, he went onto 00000 for a short period and then onto mainly 0000. they were both average length, but just tiny. they are now both on around the 80%-97% percentile, so it made no difference to their eventual growth

Mine were 4.2 and 4.6 kgs, and went straight into 000! Hamish was in 00 by 6 weeks but daisy is still in 000 at 3 months, she is a slower gainer than her brother! She is in 00 jumpsuits as her legs are long but will be in 000 for everything else for a lot longer!

My biggest baby (4.66kg) didnt wear 0000 at all. Hes a January kid so was mostly in summer jumpsuits. My DD was in 0000 until she was 2 mths. She was 3.5kg born but isnt piling on the weight. Shes in 000 for pretty much everything except singlet suits whetecshe needs 00. My eldest was 2.93kg and we bought a few 00000 for him. Pants are dependent on nappies too. I find most clothes arent designed for a cloth bum and things that dont stretch are usually needed in a bigger size.

I found a size chart guide on something that may have been a bonds outfit. I kept it because, like you I never knew what would fit when. I'd put this up as a chart but it doesn't work here so it goes like this

0000 newborn 4kg 56cm
000 0-3 months 6kg 62cm
00 3-6 months 8kg 68cm
0 6-9 months 10kg 76cm
1 9-12 months 12kg 84cm

Thankyou so much for your replies.
I think Ill get a few more 0000 and maybe some more 00 but pretty sure Ive got enough 000 lol.
All your help is greatly appreciated. Its so hard to guess what bubs size is going to be like and whether he will be a quick grower or what lol. Yes he's going to be a November bub. But I live in Melbourne and we all know what this place is like with the weather, so trying to get a variety of things.

Thanks again, hope this helps others in a similar boat BigGrin

Tilly was born 3.1kgs , discharged at 2.9kgs.

I'm very short (5foot) but she was soo long!! But she wore 0000's for about 4-5 weeks i think?!

I think (in my experience!!) there is a bit of a difference with how fast they grow depending on if they are fed breast milk or formula.
She was breast fed (mostly expressed - fed by bottle) for 4 weeks, but once she was on formula she chumped up and seemed to move through clothing faster.
However i only have 1, so can't say whether it was the formula or it might have been just how she grew.

But either way - i would buy a few 0000's of each item and if you need more- you can always buy some after bub is born!

People told me that because Tilly was born mid-summer i wouldn't need any long/warm clothing - but i did!! I had to rush out the day i got out of hospital to buy a heap of wondersuits and onesies, long sleeve body suits, and beanies!
I also dressed Tilly so she was warm and didnt need anything more than a muslin/sheet in her cot. I was very worried about sids..

DD was born 7 pound 9 and I mainly put her in 000s. The only thing I really found too big for her was some pants, but I like jumpsuits better for newborns Smile 0000s definitely fit better though. It just depends if you want to spend more really.

My first was 3.3kgs, and she is in 0000 but some of the jumpsuits are no good as she has these monster little feet and hands. So I sometimes use 000 but these swim on her as she is long and lean. Every baby is different, most of the clothes are so cheap which is good, especially during sales. BigGrin
