So with my pronunciation thread it's pronounced Ah-LEE-ah so which spelling do you think would be better??

The original way is Aaliyah but I'm just not sure on the double A.

Thanks

I voted for Aaliyah, it just looks so pretty to me Smile I checked various websites and Aaliyah is pronounced Ah-lee-ah.

I voted Aleeya because its the only one that looks like the way you want it pronounced. All the others look like they would be pronounced AH-lee-ya

Very pretty name :-)

I think Aleah with your pronounication makes it easier for others to know how to say it

I agree - Aleah.

Theres a singer called Aaliyah and im pretty sure its pronounced Ah-lie-ya. I think you'd be forever correcting people if you spelt it that way :)

Goodluck deciding! :)

I prefer the original spelling, its one of the only names that you can put the double 'A' and it makes sense. I.e like Aaron

Aaliyah is very pretty by the way BigGrin

thanks everyone, I've googled the pronunciation of this name and people say it's a-lee-a, or a-lie-a or ah lee ah so depends who you are. When my DH told my MIL yesterday she said a-lie-a gggrrr and so did my sister.

It's just such a hard decision do I spell it the original way and just correct people or do I do the Aleeya which is a made up way?? I really like Aliyah and I can see why people say a lie a but we will see I guess in a couple of days Laugh

yeah that's cute too!! Why is naming a child so hard LOL

I have 2 days till due date and i'm still contemplating names I can't find anything else I like but now i'm so confused about the spelling and I can see me sitting in hospital still figuring it out and writing out the official paperwork and still not knowing and once I fill that out that will be it forever no changing it. I've never had problems with spelling for my other kids because it was just the way it was spelt.

i like the way you have it in the title, only thing is with the way you sort of 'stay' on the eee sound, having the spelling so short might trick people and you;d be forever correcting them. btw i;ve never heard is spelt with 'lie' in the middle, only ever 'lee'. a friend of mine named her twins Jaida and Aliqua- and yes, aliqua is pronounced exactly as it is written, and a 'kwa' sound on the end.

have you tyhought of doing double ii? i mean, just cos you dont like the double A doesnt mean you cant do double I. each way i think of it though, i still come back to the original spelling, it just makes all the letters sound right when you say it i reckon

oh and the singer Aaliyah, who died in the plane crash-(sung the song 'try again) hers was pronounced the exact way you want it to be pronounced, not with a 'lie' in the middle, but a 'lee' sound.
