Feeling a little ho hum today. We are ttc number 2 and it's not happening. I bf on demand our 15 month old & I love that I can. I have AF back we are up to the fourth cycle. So what I'm wondering how long before people have fallen after/ while bf, did you have probs conceiving while bf & what did you do. I know bf suppresses ovulating but I thought once AF is back it's back iykwim. We've been ntnp the whole time (15 months give or take) so for me Oing has been surpressed by bf, just thought it would be back with AF. Love to hear people's stories positive or not, need a bit of advice & a pick me up.

Thanks girls xx

My eldest was 11 months old and BFing but took 3rd cycle to get pregnant with #2, #2 was 6 months old when I fell pregnant with #3 and only had AF back once and she was still having a feed overnight. #3 is nearly 16 months old and still feeding 2-3 times a day but not thinking about #4 until next year if I can convince DH LOL

Goodluck!

I fell with DS2 when DS1 was 8 months old and still breastfeeding 3-4 times a day. I had about 3 AFs before falling pregnant again.
Could you pick up some OPKs to see if you are ovulating and when? Then you'll be able to pinpoint the right time to DTD! ;)

ETA - I wasn't ovulating very very late in my cycle when AF returned, so it doesn't always go back to ovulating right in th emiddle of your cycle - this is why OPKs are great!

I'm BF my 16 month old on demand. AF returned 7 weeks after be was born and I went on the mini pill. I stopped taking the mini pill mid July and we conceived in October.

After DS my cycle is shorter, I used OPKs for the first two months to work out when I was Oing.

Good luck with your TTC journey. I hope it's a short one.

It certainly is possible to fall pg whilst bf. But for some women, its a case of cutting feeds right back or even weaning before their fertility returns. I think checking that youre ovulating is a good start.

I got AF back when DD was 6 months old, but she dropped all night feeds by 9 weeks of age. I conceived this baby when she was about 15 months, having 2 feeds per day. I fell pregnant first cycle (took us 7 cycles to conceive DD!)
DD1 - December 2009 - breastfed for 22 months
DD2 - January 2012 - straight back onto the booby feeding bandwagon

Thanks ladies. I'll give the opk a go :) If I'm not Oing I can give night weaning a go (but I prefer the sleep in we get from bf cuddles!) ThumpUp

I've fallen pregnant 4 times while breastfeeding. I've had one m/c within that time. And of course everyone said it was because I was bfing. But then I went on to have 3 healthy babies. So Flapper to them! I had no particular pattern to when I fell. And I never honestly knew when I was Oing either. For me it was always hit and miss. I'd say just keep on keeping on. Fingers crossed for you. Smile

I have spent around 18 of the last nearly 21 years breastfeeding and conceived many times while breastfeeding. My cycle returns very early after giving birth, but the first few cycles at least are infertile. Either ovulation doesn't happen or AF occurs too soon after, what is termed a 'luteal phase defect' which is apparently very common in breastfeeding women.

I agree with PP, tracking your cycles may be helpful, so then you have a clear idea of whether or not O is happening and at what point in your cycle. Good luck!Smile
