I am 17 weeks pg with bub #4 and I am having a small freak out about this labour being faster than the last. Each of my labours have been hugely faster than the previous ie DD1 was 27hrs, DD2 was 5hrs and DD3 was 46 mins!OhMyGod Yep from start to finish 46 mins. I was induced so thankfully we were at the hospital as it was a totally wild ride, but now with number 4 I am seriously worried that if this one is just as fast or faster that I wont make it as we live 30 mins from the hospital. DF just says 'well if we need to we'll call an ambulance' but it doesnt make me feel a whole lot better!

Has anyone had the same situation and what did they do? I am hoping that they might agree to induce a few days early, but I dont know whether they do that for this?

My next-door neighbour had her first in the ambulance, and the other 5 at home waiting for the ambulance. The last one, she went into labour upstairs, called the ambulance, then went downstairs and had him at the foot of the stairs!

Her advice is not to worry - the baby will come when it will come, and as long as the ambulance arrives soon after the baby comes, there's nothing to stress about! I guess she had 6 labours to get used to the idea though!

Good luck - you might find that if you don't get induced with #4, that the labour might be a bit slower and less intense than wit #3...

If you don't make it to the hospital, it's really not the worst thing that could happen.
DS was an unplanned home birth after being sent home from the hospital in 'early labour' DS was born at home two hours later. Ambos arrived and minutes later DS was out!!
We live 45-60 mins from the hospital, and it's crossed my mind that I won't make it there. I'll just keep a few towels about and call the ambos again if I need to ThumpUp

This is my fear too, my first was 12 hours and 3 hours from when my water broke, my second I was induced and from when they broke my waters to having him was less then an hour, so I am worried as I live an hour away from the hospital that if by chance my waters break on their own ill be having a baby at home or in the car on the way in

But who knows could be my longest labour too, I try not to worry a figure I've done twice before surely I can do it myself if I have too!

think most of us have worried about it during pregnancy. I would be worried if my waters broke as they have all been out pretty soon after that happened!

Your doctor will probably talk to you about it that if you did go into labour to head off straight away and they can at least check you over. I always have to head in straight away after my quick labours and Strep B as Miki was so quick she didn't get the antibiotics

omgosh, i stress about this as well. on a good day, the hosp is 40mins away, well the one i have to birth at, and on a bad day, well, 1.5hrs away, depending on the traffic up the freeway. im lucky though, i guess, in that my labours, from start to finish have lasted 15hr and 14hrs, so no need to really rush, but you just never know.

maybe as you get closer to the end, the drs/obs will discuss with you your options and i guess if there is no need to induce this time, you might find it will be okay

I have been told that number 3 is the 'wild card' so maybe this one will be nice and quick Nic!

i dont like who ever told you that missT!! haha! i havent been told that, but then again labour times havent come up yet in my appointments. both mine started very differently as well, first contractions and midwives broke my waters, and second, my waters broke and gradual contractions, so i dont know. gee, i hope its not too fast though, last time i couldnt be bothered really and it took me like 3hrs to get to hosp after i called them and the said come in now, due to strep b

It happened to me 8 weeks ago, I just called an ambulance, but I delivered my own baby, ambo's arrived just before she was born.

I wouldn't stress too much, everyone said to me weren't you scared?? But no I wasn't I was focusing on getting baby out!!
