After birth pains...

I've had three people so far say to me 'oh it's your second. You know what you can expect this time... After birth pains. Oooh your going to be in so much pain, you just wait' and this is said with this big smile, like they are really looking forwards to me being in pain Glare

So I'm just looking to hear experiences of ladies with 2+ children. Did you get after birth pains? Did you have them with all your births? None of your births? Only the second or third? Am I just being hopeful thinking that I didn't get them with DS so won't this time either?

TIA ladies!! Smile

I had them with both of mine.
With DS1 they weren't too bad, but lasted a while.
With DS2 they were quite painful, but I found that by breathing through them the pain was reduced, and they didn't seem to stick around for as long as they did with DS1.

They do hurt! But nothing like labour, and nothing stronger than bad period pain for me. For the first 2-3 days while feeding DD2 I'd get them, strong enough to make me grimace and whinge to DH. Sort of like a very very very mild contraction. They didn't last long though. It's all good, it just means that the uterus is contracting back nicely and shrinking down. I'd rather have them than not have them IYKWIM :)
DD1 - December 2009 - breastfed for 22 months
DD2 - January 2012 - straight back onto the booby feeding bandwagon

They are definately way worse with the second but its all part of having babies I guess. They don't last forever Smile

I only have 1 child, but I had them quite bad! - they gave me pethidine and a massive compression band to put around my tummy & hips.
All through my pregnancy i joked that i must be having twins because i was huge (though measured exactly right). When i got AB pains, i seriously thought they had missed the second baby and started to panic i was going to have 2 to look after!

Some people get them, some people don't. Some people get them quite bad, others its not so bad.
Don't worry too much about them, it still doesn't hurt as bad as labour and you wouldn't not have a baby just because of them.
If you keep getting heaps of comments maybe you should tell them "thanks for making me worry about more pain!!"

Goodluck, i hope you don't get them!

My first 2 yes my second 2 not really a little painful but nothing what I was expecting, the midwife was surprised she said the 3rd would be the worst, everybody is so different so I guess you don't know what to expect until the time comes BigGrin

Yes mine were bad, But that is my experience please don't freak out hearing everyone elses stories just take them on board and if you do have bad pain know that they can give you pain relif (panadeine forte etc)and it only last a couple of days.

Honestly I was never told about it so after my second I thought there was seriously something wrong with me. So atleast you have been warned I guess LOL.

It was only during breastfeeding when my tummy would contract.

((HUGS)) You will be fine xxx

I haven't had #2 yet (maybe I'll come back and tell you here in 10 weeks!) But with DD I got them quite bad. I think from memory also when I had them I could feel more blood coming out too... but I can't remember if that's true or not...

So I dam hope this time around they are not worse coz first time around they were horrible!

Interesting you say that, though I never felt after pains. In the first few days when BF I could feel the same thing.

My son is 4 days old and I've just stopped taking nurofen and panadol for the after pains. Ouch, he is my third. Breastfeeding immediately after giving birth was quite painful almost like contractions for me. And I would get a gush of blood after each feed. BUT day 4 feeling good and my stomach has flattened out so much quicker this time!!

I didn't get them with number one... Number 2 was pretty bad. I didn't need any drugs when in labour but took pain killers for the afterbirth pains lol. But honestly- you have a brand new beautiful smooshy baby to look at which helps immensely!!

With DD I only got pains when I was breastfeeding and it was mild period-like cramps.

With DS it was on and off for 3 days, worse when breastfeeding and it felt like early labour again. But my tummy was pretty bruised and my uterus was physically forced, by another person, to contract after DS so that may have been the problem.
