Hi, I am 24yrs old and 13 weeks pregnant. Iv been struggling, with sickness and exhaustion. Iv been working in my job for just over 3 yrs and have hardly had a sick day. I have had a few days off, and I am now being treated unfairly and made to feel extremely guilty (despite already feeling bad enough as it is) iv suffered from anxiety in the past and it is now coming back. I'm wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as me and how they delt with it.

Does your employer know about your pregnancy?

Assuming you are in Australia, they have no right to make you feel guilty for needing time away from work for pregnancy. And if you take maternity leave as long as its 12 months or less they are obliged to give you back your old position with the same hours.

I would suggest being open and honest to your employer, tell them how you are not feeling as well as normal dye to the pregnancy and you will require time off every now and then for hospital/ob appointments etc. Maybe remind them of your previous commitment to your job in the past three years and how you are now feeling sick, tired, because your body is working hard to grow a baby.

I hope someone else can give you some more advice. When are you due? We have "due in" threads on this forum you can join for extra support.

Good luck with everything

Yeah my employee knows I'm pregnant.
Im due in August, so not for a while yet, its my first bub, and I know it gets easier the further I am, so hopefully I will be feeling better soon, but it's very dishearting that I am made to feel guilty for being sick, and not just the flu, pregnancy sickness...
I work every second weekend, and return have the mon and fri either side of the w/end worked off, so I arrange my appointments then, so as to don't inter fear with work... Unfortuanatly I cant time my body to feel sick only on these days!!
I just feel emotionally exaughsted,

Thankyou so much for ur advice, I think il have to speak to my area manager, I just don't want to make matters worse.

I like what Raff says about reminding them about ur past loyaltiesWink That sux that you're made to feel guilty. I am a teacher and during the first 16 weeks, i used up my quota of sick days so was being unpaid for a lot of days!! My employers were so understanding (one of their daughter's was pregnant too and had bad morning sickness!) except I then got the guilts from the parents!!! One of them got so mad at me for having so many days off.

Good luck with your area manager, hopefully they are able to put your stress at ease

It's illegal for you to be harrassed or discriminated against because of sickness, regardless of whether that sickness is caused by pregnancy or something else. If I were you, I'd be calling Fair Work Australia (pretty sure that's what they're called) just to get some advice, and maybe some "key words" that you can drop into conversation when you're talking with the people who are making you feel this way, so that they know you know your rights and are going to stand up for them.

Not so much in the early stages, but towards the end of my pregnancy I found it pretty hard being at work for the whole week.

I was quitting my job anyway and had a heap of sick leave up my sleeve so I got the doctor to write a certificate stating that I was to have 2 days off a week which I did for the last 4 weeks at work!!

The boss did ask if I could just leave early each day but we both knew that wouldn't happen as I always try to leave early but keep getting tied down. In the end, he couldn't say anything as I had a certificate and I gladly took those days off!!
